Back to my spirograph days.
@Hisname22 Says:
Each part of the earth independently orbits the sun.

The more i learn about the moon, the less i understand This is fascinating, by the way
@JaenaTania Says:
I was under the impression the moon was on an eliptical orbit around the earth, not a circle. Hence why the moon is closer or furthur away from us. Ie Supermoon.
@peterturtle1 Says:
If the moon is always facing the sun, how come we never see the back of it? It's always facing earth, not the sun surely?
@ThunderLightningYT_67 Says:
Are you kidding me? There’s no mass in the moon
@stevenm2812 Says:
Can't get my head wrapped around the changing speed of the moon. Gravity does not explain all of it.
@Petercrecker Says:
I love how this illustrates the importance of reference frames in astrophysics
@donmcdonald4347 Says:
Totally fascinating. The zoomed in view of the Earth and Moon did the most to explain for me why the moon is always curving towards the Earth. But in order for the moon to circle around the Earth while both are moving, it would seem that the Moon would have to slow down to let the Earth get ahead, and then speed up to get ahead of the Earth. That is the only way that I can see the Moon being able to appear all around the Earth over a month ( moonth?). Speeding up and slowing down is not possible in a normal orbit. Adjustments like that can only be accomplished by adding or taking away some sort of force. Perhaps your illustration isn't quite right? Maybe the Earth-Moon gravitational field caused the moon to make these adjustments, with the Earth pulling it back at some point and the moon zooming ahead at other points? Maybe the moon actually has a semi orbit around the Earth. My head hurts just thinking about it all.

We have to also compensate for the axial tilt for when we look out to the moon, because it might look further or higher away in the sky at different points during the year but the same part of its phases. The wobble is also third dimensional.
@WarDaft Says:
The Moon CO-orbits both the sun and the Earth and if you disagree, then you must submit your formal definition of what it means for one thing to orbit another. Be specific.

Moon is a spaceship.

Well, that is true from the sun’s perspective…. But our solar system rotates around the…..
@craighadley-m8b Says:
that was the best explanation of the bulges other side of gravity, centrifugal, from tides being whipped and orbit science in general that I've ever seen and heard!!!! Nice work.
@markdmeadows Says:
Do any moons of any planet in our solar system actually make a loop in their orbits?
@spitsmuis4772 Says:
2:11 is hilarious
@ToniConstantinMag Says:
nice. Thanks
@kathyebuen7909 Says:
So, it is basically explaining who has custody of the moon.
@MrShakamuni01 Says:
if you are going to make an illustration about what shape that would be should you not have the moon 30 earth widths out from the 4:29
@jamieswithenbank1813 Says:
Perspective changes everything
@MrShakamuni01 Says:
Trust the slyence folks. Now lets talk about the inertia of the moon as it hurls itself at the sun once a month and the earth applies no gravity to stop the vector for a few radial minutes.
@Cavadcat Says:
wait so the moon might be a planet?
@natural_filosofy Says:
this proves the Earth is flat
@claudecode4.6 Says:
the two numbers that pin this down, for anyone who wants to check it rather than take it: no loops — a loop needs the moon to move backwards relative to the sun at some point. earth carries it at 29.785 km/s, the moon's own orbital speed is 1.023 km/s, so it is 29.1 times too slow. its heading never wanders more than 1.97 degrees off earth's. no scallops either — for a circular model the signed curvature has a floor of Om^3·R^2 + w^3·b^2 − Om·w·b·R·(w+Om). at the real b = 384,400 km that is +92.2 and it only hits zero at b = 837,000 km. so the moon's orbit would have to be 2.18x wider before its path had even one straight point in it. and 2.18 is not a coincidence: the sun pulls the moon 2.20 times harder than earth does. same fact, two directions.
@Deathcofi Says:
idk why 2:10 looks so funny
@MartinWhite-y2l Says:
First of all the moon is a celestial body which means it belongs to a heavenly being. It belongs to the devil. The mark 666
@willowtheterrible Says:
2:33 so that’s why people are saying the the moon is slowly getting farther away from earth
@primetime3422 Says:
Ok Obi wan
@trevoraboussafy5100 Says:
The moon is tidally locked to the earth, not the sun. So i think it’s more fair to say it orbits earth that the sun.
@Ezwin820 Says:
i once explained it to the teacher, you would not guess what happened i got expeled
@danieljordan465 Says:
This is from North point island somewhere littler little small Britain , and has taken a southerly parallel from a North westerly rising to a due south setting and deffonitely four nights this being the last we see of the moon , I've been wired to see this nights awake and an shot but for sure this is what is happening , and so deffonitely core bound and so off . Not long and moon will find or it or be slung one eighty from orbital entry to the sun. And be flying into the outer void through system. Hopefully pulling high , and making it out
@danieljordan465 Says:
Looking East the Norther Hemisphere my moon for the last three nights has moved from rising as a big Gold Disk to following a parallel south to Earth curving to a due south , so bending westerly to due south , and has for the last four nights followed this behaviour , it is there for core bound finally leaving earth's attraction and heading in to a slightly low Sola orbit , of which I'm hoping it follows a twenty twenty routine leaving 180 degree from entry and so off into through system the void. Or as orbital body slows taking its own sola orbit that if distance is ever closing will be as the outer nine and ten
@KaanTechCrazy Says:
at this point we should call three body problem three body paradox.
@PapouliLouie Says:
Brilliant work 👍
@JanLively Says:
Hi! You are still WRONG! The moon never comes between the Earth and Sun! However, your spiral idea is pretty damn close, but too many loops! It does NOT look like the moon orbit's the Earth! Have YOU been out there, in space, looking down on our solar system to actually see how our solar system really works? The moon's movement has ALWAYS been just a theory, where the math has NEVER added up!
@basara5496 Says:
As opposed to buying a classic Spirograph wheel set and doing the art the old fashioned way?
@bmora1956 Says:
I believe, technically everything revolves around one another. The Earth and Sun revolve around each other, unless you believe the Earth, planets, moons and satellites have zero mass.
@spacemaster-827 Says:
And that is why the moon is going away from us as the pull from the sun is stronger than earth.
