Passing A Portal Through Itself

Passing A Portal Through Itself

????

Nebula Classes - Great classes by your favorite creators on a creator-owned streaming service: https://nebulaclasses.com/minutephysics This video is about what happens if you try to pass a portal (like in the video game Portal or Portal 2) through itself - do you get a paradox? Infinite recursion? Impossibility? Contradiction? The end of the world? Collapse of the wavefunction? Ultimately it ends up looking beautiful and weird and recursive and... just watch the video :) Support MinutePhysics on Patreon! http://www.patreon.com/minutephysics Link to Patreon Supporters: http://www.minutephysics.com/supporters/ MinutePhysics is on twitter - @minutephysics And facebook - http://facebook.com/minutephysics Minute Physics provides an energetic and entertaining view of old and new problems in physics -- all in a minute! What if the blue portal is smaler than the orange one, and whatever goes trough is getting bigger or smaler (depending on wich portal it goes in and out)

Scientists have theorised that black holes are somewhat similar to portals. If you're try to push a portal through another, it might just merge and become a portal to nothing, which means essentially it would become a black hole

WTF are you talking about? You can have a portal close to another one they wont form!

I love how at the end, E=mc2 is near other confusing things like 0.999...= 1 and e to the i pi +1 = 0.

I find myself coming back to this video once a month to remind myself why the blue portal comes out of itself so weirdly at 1:40. Writing this comment for myself so I can remind myself. The blue portal is going through the orange portal at the position corresponding to 1 on the blue portal. When the blue portal "folds over" itself, all of the other parts of the blue portal that are passing through the orange portal at position 1 should still be coming out of the blue portal at position 1, hence why the blue portal looks weird. The portal faces backwards once it folds over, and it follows all the sensible directions and orientations at which it enters the orange portal.

blast did it in his fight vs garou its basically get stuck in infinty loop

but what if the blue portal is smaller than the other portal? and its been thrown in the other portal will it keep generating itself?

Somehow this reminds me to when the TARDIS materialized inside itself.
@wedoalittletrolling-im4ti Says:
I always thought it would just implode
@unavailable_being Says:
I feel like the blue portal would go through enough to just go through and stick to something. So it passes through but never sticks within. It just sticks to whatever is seen through the orange portal?

@burgerfood8076 Says:
If you passed through a portal that passes through itself, it might turn you into a tangled-up pretzel on the way out, especially if several of its edges stick out! That might kill an organism!

What if the portal is a weird shape and it accidentally go inside itself? Would it go through itself or will it unlock something not even reality can describe?

@Magicalpickel203 Says:
what of you step into a orange portal without a blue one? or somehow fold the blue one in half where the back is the outside and then make a material that literally can’t break and use it as a strap to keep the blue one folded. and then stick it in the orange one?
