The emergence of big data in education has led to new frontiers in how we monitor, explore, and understand processes in educational contexts. This panel includes four projects funded under the Statistical and Research Methodology program with a common focus on developing and promoting proper use of cutting-edge psychometric methods to handle micro or mesolevel big data. Such data includes fine-grained interactions between learners and their learning environments (responses, response times, click-streams) and text data that capture learners' social abilities, affective states, or evaluations of teaching effectiveness. Diverse methods, tools, analysis protocols, and application examples will be shared.
