I always assumed the bright yellow part of a candle was the hottest, so finding out the blue base is the clean burning part flipped my whole brain

Separating combustion chemistry from the light show of the flame was the cleanest cut. Watching blue as hot complete burn and red/orange as soot glow made the colour a physics claim, not a paint choice.

gooood!

<<@shoam2103

So barely visible blue is emission spectra, while the bright yellow is black body radiation from the dirty soot glowing red-yellow hot

Someone is promoting your account, saying you can get $300-$500 in compensation for following Get. Are these people hired by you? The promotion is really aggressive - I've already saved the evidence. Stop letting these trolls harass and scam us.

That's chemistry for you.

Now to add some more quantum physics: think about why sodium turns your flame yellow, copper turns it bright blue/green, calcium turns it red, etc etc! (And yes, that’s also how fireworks get their colours.)

My opinion is that chemistry was invented because physics were too complex, and then chemistry was too complex so someone made it more comprehensible by explaining macro chemistry with the word biology. It is as if you look at physics and zoom out more and more to get too chemistry and then biology.

That’s all still chemistry too. It’s just an area of overlap between the disciplines

The lightshow isn't ALL physics. You can add some chemistry to it to change the colour. Copper makes it green for instance. ;)

What a coincidence! I was just wondering why flames looked blue even though the temperature for black body radiation wasn't met. Now i realise that the blue comes from the emmision spectrums! Thank you!

Are electron transisions physics or chemistry? Are protein folds chemistry or biology? Speaking rigidly about categories helps no one.
