It's like talking to a brick wall. The worst part is that they were suprised the build turned out poorly when i had been SCREAMING the entire time at the top of my lungs to specifically NOT do what they did. Please people, for the love of god, read the texts your engineers send you. It will save you money, and time for the family, and headache, and possibly your entire company. It went something like this: Me: hey, this looks MASSIVE. are you sure you were talking about the circumference of the product and not the diameter? This seems like a mixup between the two. Bosses: no, that's the diameter. Go ahead and build it! Me: are you SURE SURE, because there's no feasable way this would fit. I ran a model using this as the circumference, and it looks a lot more reasonable, it seems like this is what you intended. You're absolutely sure it's the diameter? Bosses: no we had it right, go build that! Excited to see the results. Me (ONE FINAL TIME): are you ABSOLUTELY sure? I'm not sure this is what you intended, this seems massive for this design. There's no way this would fit... Bosses: yes build it, it's fine! "Okay, here's the finished product. Not sure why you wanted it to be this massive but I was able to design structural supports around the bottom that are actually really effective at holding that giant ring--" "oh no, what? that's way too big" *thousands have been spent on it at this point* I died a thousand times that day. I am the biggest optimist about humanity you will ever meet, but that was one of the most profound expressions of stupidity I've ever experienced. It's not that I'm "so much smarter" than anyone else, more so that I would at least listen if my engineer is screaming at me that something is a massive mistake. Looking back on it, I sometimes wonder if they read my notifications at all. It made me kind of sad, dude, like I was in my teens at the time and these people are in their 40s and 50s contracting a custom robot, at least LISTEN WHEN I TELL YOU ITS COOKED DUDE JKAVB NBCXN. I'm in my early 20s now, and that scenario taught me that "intelligence," at least in the way we percieve it, doesn't matter that much in cooperate america: No matter how "smart" or "dumb" you think you are, I promise you I would rather work with your wonderful self than that company again. Collaboration is what makes good things happen. Listening to specialists is overpowered for a reason. It’s effectively a giant lightsaber mixed with blaster technology, there should be an explosion sure, but I would think it would instead of instantly kablooming the whole planet all at once would actually vaporize the atmosphere and breach a hole into the center of the planet and then out the other side. Everything would still die but instead of a big boom it would be because they all burn alive when the atmosphere ignites, they are all hit by a massive shockwave that circles the planet over and over and over, and then they’re drowned in the molten core of the planet erupting mixed with massive tidal waves and city leveling earthquakes. This would probably make the cataclysmic devastation take minutes while still annihilating any hope of people on the ground escaping, and I think making an entire planet suffer for like 3 minutes is much more evil than one instant boom snuffing them out immediately.>> <<@ramaSwamp says : The most unreal part of this skit is that he asked for 12 workers and PM didn't lower it to 6.>> <<@centurion7398 says : HR layoffs!? Fleets had been glassing planets with ordinary battleships for thousands of years, yet the Sith were obsessed with these planetary superweapons. They literally built dozens of them. Every film, novel, comic, or game featured a new one, going back thousands of years. But like, glassing a planet is so much less resources intensive on every front. Or even a superweapon that just renders the planet silent. You don't have to destroy the actual thing. What a waste of exploitable resources.>> <<@DaCanadianbear says : Lockheed Martin is canon to the star wars Timeline>> <<@Vohlfied says : "What kind of works do we live in where you neither prove nor disprove the Riemann Hypothesis?!"
